Maria Conlon was a member of three University of Connecticut NCAA Championship basketball teams (2002-3-4). A guard and home grown talent (Derby, CT), Maria was at UConn 2000-2004 and experienced being part of four Big East Conference regular season titles and an NCAA women’s record 70 consecutive victories.
An excellent long-range shooter, 170 of Maria’s 234 career field goals came from behind the three-point line. She was a lifetime .376 three-point shooter (170-for-452), and compiled 714 points in 135 games and 2,890 minutes of play during her four seasons. She hit more than 40 per cent of her three-point attempts in both her freshman and senior seasons.
She was the last cut by the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA in 2004 and the Connecticut Sun one year later before playing in Germany and Iceland. She was Most Valuable Player of the Icelandic Cup Tournament. She later served as an assistant coach at Southern Connecticut University, helping one of her former high school coaches, Joe Frager, win the NCAA Division II title. Maria is a solid producer today as Agency Sales Director for Barnum Financial Group, a division of Met Life, located in Shelton, CT. She also has her real estate license, and is a radio commentator for Fairfield University women’s basketball games. Maria has a political science degree from Connecticut.
Prior to her UConn days, Maria was an outstanding player at Seymour (CT) High School, including undefeated state championships in her freshman and sophomore seasons. She once had a rare quadruple double with 22 points, 11 assists, 10 steals and 10 rebounds. Her numerous records included holding the Connecticut high school records for three-point baskets in a game, season and career.
She and her husband, Carmine Rinaldi, live in Milford, CT.
